1928 First NRC chief librarian appointed – Margaret Gill
1929 Publication of the first periodical by NRC Research Press
1947 The Technical Information Service is transferred to the NRC from the Department of Reconstruction
1957 The NRC Library unofficially takes on the role of national science library as the Collection reaches 350,000 volumes
1960 The Collection grows to 450,000 a year after being officially recognized as the National Science Library of Canada (NSL)
1966 NSL recognized as national library of health sciences for Canada
1967 The Collection reaches 725,000 volumes
1969 NRC receives mandate for Cabinet to develop a national scientific and technical information system
1974 Unification of NSL and Technical Information Service – NRC-CISTI is born
1983 NRC-CISTI generated more than 200,000 copies and loans of documents – more than any other information centre in North America
1984 NRC-CISTI budget now part of NRC's general envelope
1987 Dr. Douglas Dewar, reference librarian at NRC-CISTI, plays a role in identifying toxin found in PEI mussels, helping to save lives
1994 Through IntelliDoc, NRC-CISTI's document supply service is computerized from end-to-end
1997 NRC-CISTI launches its Virtual Library for NRC Research Institutes | NRC-CISTI's national network of branch libraries become NRC Information Centres
1999 NRC-CISTI's inventory exceeds 8 million and receives more than 3,500 requests daily
2000 CISTI Source launched | eBooks from NRC Research Press available from NetLibrary
2001 NRC Research Press e-journals available freely to all Canadians via the federal Depository Services Program
2002 CISTI Sources Alerts launched | Pay-per-view for NRC Research Press Journals begins | NRC Research Press launches new journal, Journal of Environmental Engineering and Science
2003 CISTI launches Secure Desktop Delivery (SDD) | CISTI takes on an expanding regional role with additional staff and locations | NRC Research Press Monographs Program launches a Biography series
2004 CTI pilot project launched with IRAP Atlantic/Nunavut - in its first year, it produces 125 deliverables.
2005 Purchase of backfiles for close to 1200 titles from major publishers | SDD available for entire CISTI Journal collection | NRC Research Press launches its first full-text HTML article in the September issue of Canadian Journal of Botany
2006 Outsell Inc. reports that CISTI tops the list of information providers | Federal Science eLibrary pilot project completed | NRC Research Press adds its 16th Journal title, Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism | NRC Research Press digitizes back issues back to 1951
2007 Pam Bjornson becomes Director General of NRC-CISTI when Bernard Dumouchel retires | Pay-per-Article service launched by CISTI | Client Journal Group created at NRC Research Press
2008 Discover is launched | Groundbreaking Places and Spaces exhibit comes to NRC-CISTI
