The Canadian Agriculture Library (CAL) is the single most important library in agriculture and food in Canada. Formally established in 1910 but with a history going as far back as Confederation, it was recognized in the mid-70s by the National Library of Canada and NRC-CISTI as the national resource for agriculture and food. The central library, located in Ottawa, contains 1 million volumes, including 8,000 current serials. It includes publications from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, provincial agricultural departments, the Canadian agriculture and food sector, Canadian authors and publishers in agriculture and food, US Department of Agriculture, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and major national and international agricultural institutes throughout the world.
