Privacy Notice

The Government of Canada and the National Research Council Canada (NRC) are committed to providing visitors with web sites that respect their privacy. This page summarizes the privacy policy and practices on National Research Council Canada Web sites.

• NRC Web sites do not automatically gather any specific personal information from you, such as your name, phone number or e-mail address. We would only obtain this type of information if you supply it by sending us an e-mail or registering in a secure portion of the site.

We make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our site unless an attempt to damage the site has been detected.
• NRC-CISTI uses optional "cookies" to track user preferences. A "cookie" is a file that may be placed on your hard drive without your knowledge by a Web site to allow it to monitor your use of the site. NRC-CISTI also uses per-session cookies, but do not collect personal information about you. Per-session cookies are used to store information within a session (or visit to our Web site). These cookies are deposited on a user's computer only while the user is visiting the site and are deleted when the user closes the session. By keeping this data, using Google Analytics, our Web site administrators can fine-tune the site based on user-activity trends. Here is the list of information that we are collecting by using per-session cookies:
  • IP address. (NRC-CISTI makes no attempt to link this address with the identity of individuals visiting our sites.)
  • The length of each visit.
  • The number of requests per visit.
  • Your type of operating system (Windows, MacIntosh, Unix, etc.).
  • Your browser type (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.).
• Information on individual visitors is used by NRC employees who need to know the information in order to respond to your request or to ensure the security of this system. We only share the information you give us with another government department if your inquiry relates to that department. We do not use the information to create individual profiles, nor do we disclose this information to anyone outside the federal government.
• NRC is a participant in the Government of Canada Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which gives you the opportunity to communicate with the Department in a confidential manner. Access additional information on PKI and how to use it.

Information Delivery Service Standards

NRC-CISTI together with its collaborator Infotrieve Canada Inc. consistently meets or exceeds the following standards:

• Business system applications will be available 99% of the time.
• 100% of client orders sourced from the CISTI M-55 print collection by Infotrieve are filled in 48 hours or less.
• 100% of client contacts to the Infotrieve HelpDesk are responded to in 4 hours or less.
