First-ever Canadian Virtual Health Library to improve access to essential health care information for Canadian health professionals

Ottawa, ON, July 5, 2010 – NRC-CISTI is pleased to announce that the Canadian Health Libraries Association (CHLA) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) are moving forward with the development of the Canadian Virtual Health Library (CVHL) - a first for Canada.

The CVHL will improve Canadian healthcare by making high-quality health information and evidence easily accessible to all health care professionals, wherever they are in Canada, so that they can make informed decisions about patient care and education, and policy and program development.

The CVHL will be rolled out over a three-year period beginning in 2010.

“As a member of the CVHL Task Force, NRC-CISTI has been deeply involved with the CVHL initiative since its inception,” says Pam Bjornson, Director General, NRC-CISTI. “Getting the latest evidence-based information and resources into the hands of those responsible for patient care is a priority for NRC-CISTI and the federal government. The CVHL is a stellar example of how to make this a reality.”
